Place
Names
Throughout this survey, I have used a variety of place names to locate
plant and animal sightings on the property more accurately. Some
of these names are widely used in the region. These include
Middle Cave Ridge, Upper Cave Ridge, Akard Ridge, and Raccoon
Branch. Some other names - such as Alex Smith Cove - are used by
Wortroot members only.
In the interests of clarity, I named all of the coves and hills on the
property which did not already have names. The map below shows
all of the cove and hill names used in this survey.
In addition to the names given to hills and coves, several other
features at Wortroot are named, as shown below. Some are
relatively ambiguous - "the house" when there are several houses on the
property, "the waterfall" when there are several waterfalls on the
property. So I've shown which area is referred to by each
name.
